Municipal Electon Week
Looking Forward - Oct 13 - Oct 16

We have reached earnings season as companies are coming out with their Q3 2026 earnings. There has been a surge in bond yields that makes many investors fear stock prices will come down. Interest rates do have a factor in setting price targets for equities.
The largest factor supporting stock prices is the earnings per share. That is why the quarterly earnings announcements are so closely followed. This morning we heard from several large US banks and the earnings were positive but with some warning signs. There is strong investment banking earnings but the consumer weakness will make the lending teams be more cautious in the future.
Tomorrow we have US inflation data that may give a signal for what the US Federal Reserve will do at their next meeting which is Oct 28th. Expectations are for US inflation to stay stubbornly above 2% with potentially rising to 3.6%. The stock market will not like that.
This weekend is General Voting Day for the Municipal Elections across British Columbia. Here are some details on all the candidates but the best information is on your local municipality website.
Advance voting has also started for the BC Provincial Election that ends on October 24th. As much as I support the focus of the local election to your neighbourhood, this provincial election is CRUCIAL for the province of BC. After many years of David Eby and the NDP fiscally mismanaging the province and driving thousands of hard working residents away, we finally have a chance for change. There is only one option to beat David Eby and that is the BC Conservative Party. A vote for anyone else is a vote for the NDP.
